The Sierra de Gredos, southwest of Madrid, is a mountainous region characterized by granitic soils, high altitude, and a long ripening period. For years, many historic vineyards were abandoned, until a new generation of winemakers rescued them from oblivion.
Dani Landi and Fernando García (Comando G) were key to this rebirth, defining a new style of Garnacha: wines with a light color, great aromatic purity, elegance, and marked minerality. In just a few decades, Gredos went from being an unknown region to one of the most exciting in Spanish wine.
Curro Barreño, originally from Gredos and co-founder of Fedellos, shares this same philosophy. When Dani decided to focus entirely on Comando G, he entrusted Curro with his vineyards in the Tiétar Valley. Thus, Vitícola Mentridana was born, a project that interprets these historic vineyards within the Méntrida DO with a sensitive and contemporary approach.
Today, Curro makes wines that accurately express the character of Gredos: fresh, fine and deeply linked to its landscape.
