Viñátigo, Tenerife Canary Islands

Juan Jesús Méndez was born on the island of Tenerife and is the fourth generation of winegrowers in his family. For the last 30 years he has been the owner and winemaker of Bodegas Viñátigo and has dedicated a large part of his life to reviving, rediscovering and promoting the native varieties of the Canary Islands. Because of the work and effort he has done - saving varieties almost from the point of extinction and educating hundreds of students and winemakers on the islands about the ancestral varieties and unique soils they have - Canarian wines are known and loved the world over.

Viñátigo's philosophy is based on the belief that it is only possible to make great wine from great grapes. Their practices in the vineyards are organic, only indigenous yeasts are used and they never make corrections in the winery.
