Los Bermejos, Lanzarote, Islas Canarias

Bodegas Los Bermejos is located in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Politically these islands are part of Spain, but geologically they belong to Africa. Which does not mean that they are hot areas. On the contrary, the vineyards are always exposed to the trade winds that bring fresh winds from the sea and the north, giving the wines their freshness and salinity. Due to an eruption that lasted six years in the 18th century, Lanzarote's vineyards look like vineyards planted on another planet. In this surreal scene with black soils and mountains of vermilion (the root of the word Bermejos), each vineyard has to search for water 5 meters or more below the lava, while fighting the alder winds that blow in the spring and summer. Here each vineyard is planted in a hole at least 4 meters deep to reach the organic matter in the subsoil. All work is by hand and yields are some of the lowest in the world. This is extreme viticulture and the wines are liquid diamonds!!
